About the page

An Orthodox Christian page using "caricature" to express ideas about Orthodox liturgy & beliefs. Created by "Jesus is life" (Fr.Athanasios & Katia Chahwan)

In literature, a caricature is a description or a feature of a person using exaggeration of some characteristics & oversimplification of others.

The term is derived from the Italian caricare — Caricatura - to charge or load, and doesn't mean mockery at all. Thus, the word "caricature" essentially means a "loaded portrait".

According to School of Visual Arts, the term refers only to depictions of real-life people, & not to cartoon fabrications of fictional characters, which do not possess objective sets of physiognomic ( from the Gk. physis meaning "nature" and gnomon meaning "judge" or "interpreter") features to draw upon for reference, or to anthropomorphic depictions of inanimate objects such as automobiles or coffee mugs.

But unfortunately some people use caricature in a bad sense without respecting the art principles & its basic concept. Caricatures can be complimentary or insulting and can serve a concept purpose or be drawn solely for entertainment.

Far from any mockery, the use of Christian signs or Icons in this page is always placed in a very respected way , and the "personage" in our concept ( Bit strips + Photoshop) has the purpose to transmit a Christian message or even a question in a funny way for the only purpose of drawing attention to embarrassing daily life situations, where the language, the clothes, the habits , the way of life & thinking , etc., are becoming un-Christian, and Christian feasts and vocabulary, due to many factors, are being ignored or rejected, as strange or simply " Chinese"!

Thanks for your comprehension & please don't forget to like the page & to keep in touch.
